The spring and summer conference circuit for hydrogen and ammonia events was hot in 2024, and 8 Rivers was proud to be part of the action. We sent representatives from our team to international events, including Argus Clean Ammonia Asia, World Hydrogen Summit, and Hydrogen Technology Expo.
Members of the 8 Rivers team took the stage at many of these conferences, highlighting the benefits of scalable technologies like our 8RH2 ultra-low-carbon hydrogen production platform. Each event also offered an opportunity to connect with innovators, policymakers, prospective partners, and others passionate about tapping into hydrogen and ammonia to drive the global net zero transition.
Now that the dust of our travels has settled, we caught up with a few team members to hear their takeaways from these conferences!
8 Rivers and Clean Ammonia Go Global with Argus Media
Our friends at Argus Media always put on a dynamic, well-organized conference. This year, members of the 8 Rivers team traveled to both their Clean Ammonia Asia and North America conferences. The timing couldn’t have been better as 8 Rivers is focused on ramping up ammonia offtake origination globally.
First up was Argus Clean Ammonia Asia in May. From our team, Nate Collamer, Will Bernholz, Nick Borisow, and James Custer all made the trip to Tokyo! And they were in good company – they all noted that this event was well-attended, particularly since it was Argus’s first time hosting an ammonia conference in Asia.
Japan is becoming a key market for clean ammonia demand and deployment—Nate was thrilled to see “relevant buyers, suppliers, intermediaries, and some policymakers active in the burgeoning Asian clean ammonia market” represented at the conference. 8 Rivers forged new connections with many of these players and came away with several actionable offtake opportunities. During a panel discussion, Nate also shared his takeaways on how production incentivization will affect hydrogen pricing mechanisms.
In June, the action moved to Houston for Argus Clean Ammonia North America. Nate took the stage again, this time for a panel on Gulf Coast clean ammonia production. Alongside experts from Bechtel, Air Products, and Woodside Energy, he shared insights on Texas and Louisiana clean ammonia production. Nate explored how partners could navigate strategic partnerships, something our team is familiar with from our work developing the Cormorant Clean Energy project in Port Arthur, TX! Nate told us that he also enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces from the Tokyo conference and build on relationships started there.
Forging a path to affordable decarbonization at scale in Rotterdam
In May, 8 Rivers had a big presence during the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam. Our SVP of Innovation, Maulik Shelat, joined the Low Carbon Hydrogen Production & CCUS panel, we hosted a networking breakfast, and we were Silver Sponsors of the event!
WHS drew an impressive number of international delegates, all ready to discuss opportunities for collaboration and project development to advance affordable low-carbon hydrogen at scale.
Maulik took advantage of these networking opportunities and appreciated the insights he uncovered, saying: “One of things I learned from talking to delegates and speakers is that Europe is recognizing affordability of electrolytic hydrogen as a hurdle. Europe now sees that fossil-based hydrogen with 100% CO2 capture offers a compelling path to affordable decarbonization at scale.”
Maulik’s panel offered another crucial opportunity to shed light on how our 8RH2 ultra-low-carbon hydrogen platform is designed to mitigate common barriers to scaling hydrogen technologies with best-in-class affordability and carbon-intensity.
Getting technical at the Hydrogen Technology Expo
Nate wasn’t the only member of the team in Houston in June! Nick Borisow, Will Bernholz, and Maulik Shelat also made it to the Lone Star State for Hydrogen Technology Expo North America.
This year’s conference focused on addressing hydrogen’s technical challenges, a topic our team was excited to dive into. 8RH2 achieves over 99% carbon capture at higher efficiency and lower cost than other carbon-capture-based technologies. We were proud to share our approach—to using CO2 as the working fluid to reduce emissions without back-end carbon capture—with other attendees during networking sessions and at our booth.
This spring and summer offered invaluable opportunities for collaboration and a chance for our team to elevate 8 Rivers’ brand among key decision makers in the growing clean hydrogen and ammonia markets. As we prepare for the fall conference circuit, we’re also counting down the days until we can return to these events next year!
